The Hotel Orto is situated minutes away from the famous 'Appian Way' (Appia Antica) and the early Christian catacombs. The Appia Antica was the most important of all Roman roads in the era of empires. The Appia connected Rome to Brindisi in southeast Italy and provided the principal gateway to and from the southern territories as well as the most fashionable avenue for wealthy Roman family tombs. Today the traders, merchants, legionnaires and strolling Roman citizens have been replaced by tourists, walkers and cyclists - who, like their predecessors, marvel at the plethora of well-preserved ancient monuments which flank the route, and enjoy the welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of the city centre.


Also within walking distance from the Hotel Orto di Roma are the early Christian catacombs of San Sebastiano and San Domitilla on the via Ardeatina, a principal connection from the city to the GRA, the motorway which orbits Rome and the location of the city's two International Airports.

Arriving by air/rail: From Leonardo Da Vinci (Fiumicino) airport or Termini station: Taxi journey is 20-25 minutes. Alternatively, there is a direct high speed train into Termini station. From Termini 10 minutes on the Metro Line B to San Paolo metro station and the 707 bus to Grotta Perfetta
From Ciampino Airport: less than 20 minutes in taxi directly to the hotel or shuttle bus to Termini station and then by bus or metro as above.

By car: Enter Rome from the orbital motorway (Gran Raccordo Annulare) on Via Ardeatina. Follow the Ardeatina for approx 4 km and turn left on to the Via di Grotta Perfetta. Follow the road for approx 1km - our address is 551 Via di Grotta Perfetta.
