Driving Directions

From the Gran Raccordo Anulare (Rome’s Ring Road), enter the city by Via Ardeatina on the south side. As you enter suburbia, you’ll see the road fork into two - take the left prong, Via di Grotta Perfetta. The Hotel Orto di Roma is at number 551.

Taxis

A taxi from either of the city’s airports costs a fixed rate until 11 pm, which can be found on the list of tariffs behind the driver’s seat. After 11 pm drivers are free to charge anything up to €120 for a ride into the city. Always be vigilant with local taxi drivers.

Appia Antica

The Appia Antica is one of the most historically significant of all Roman roads. The Appia connected Rome to Brindisi in south east Italy and provided the principal gateway to and from the southern territories as well as the most fashionable avenue for wealthy Roman family tombs.

Today the traders, merchants, legionnaires and strolling Roman citizens have been replaced by tourists, walkers and cyclists - who, like their predecessors, marvel at the plethora of well-preserved ancient monuments which flank the route, and enjoy the welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of the city centre.
